Virtual Reality : the new frontier

we work on PSVR

We are working on PSVR

and Oculus too

and Oculus Rift too

Llamasoft has for been working on Virtual Reality for now over two years, we have been into the PSVR project ( originally called Project Morpheus ) before it became "strategic content" .

We also been actively into Oculus Rift since DK1 came out, we been among the first to experiment with Samsung Gear VR and we did work on all the different prototypes of Oculus .

During those years we experimented with various techniques, we improved and upgraded our proprietary Neon Engine to achive maximum possible frame rate and add more technical features for even more complex future game projects.

We found that VR really offers us new frontiers to create even more intersting and NEW gaming experiences, yet we are never going to forget about our 8 bits past and traditional gaming.

Our Virtual Reality mission statements :
  • Create fun, immersive experiences that do not cause user discomfort.
  • Explore how Llamasoft's gaming style might fit into the virtual world.
  • Experiment to find practical and effective VR game control methods.
  • Learn and be inspired by all that this new technology around out to create new game experiences.

We remember fooling around with VR systems in the early 90s, when the concept got a lot of hype but eventually was largely forgotten due to its being both expensive and a bit rubbish. Now, technology has advanced to the point where VR has become both practical and cheap, and we're excited to be taking our first steps into this new medium.

To start it off we'd like to show you some videos of our work in progress ( nearly completed ) Polybius game for PSVR

This game employes our latest techniques and strategy to achieve smooth 120 FPS on the standard PS4. You can find details about the game on its own page.

In this video I'll talk you through the game's first seven levels, explaining how things work.

Our first Virtual Reality Demo, was a re-imagination of our popular game Minotaur Rescue . This DEMO (actually a full game, but not a hugely complex one) been made using a small in-house developed mini engine still based on DX9, it's been tested on Win7/Win8 machines to a certain extent on a number of graphics cards. This demo is designed to work with Oculus Rift SDK 1.

Unfortunately this demo been not yet converted to the latest SDK so for the moment it's not available for download, sorry but stay tuned.

Short action video!

The yellow cursor is where you look at .. anywhere you move your head the cursor will follow .. now imagine the spaceship and the cursor are like connected with a rubber band, where you move the cursor there the ship goes. Rescue the minotaurs and destroy all the rest ...

Beam me up Scotty!
